The Miata Wave

Many classifications of vehicle have their own sayings, greetings and superstitions.  Motorcyclists, for example, often greet each other with the ubiquitous "two to the ground" signal as they pass.  And of course, if you don't drive one, you probably have no idea what "A Jeep Thing" is.

In the hayday of the small roadsters, it was common for fellow enthusiasts to recognize each other with a flick of the headlight switch or a slight wave.  Continuing this tradition in the Gen 1 Miata (M1, or NA) meant briefly raising and lowering the headlights to fellow drivers.  With subsequent generations, of course, the pop-up headlights were eliminated so these days a wave or a flick of the normal headlights is a good replacement.

We could all do with a little more friendship on the highway, right?  So the next time you see a fellow motorist enjoying their Miata give them a "Miata Wave!"
